Thanks for stopping by! Teratomas arise from pluripotent cells (i.e., cells that have the ability to differentiate into any type of cell in the body). They're most commonly encountered in the gonads - ovaries and testes - because of the abundance of germ-line cells found there. This case study from Brigham & Women's Hospital (Harvard Med's teaching hospital) does a better job of explaining it:

"Teratoma is a neoplasm of germ cell tumors arising along the line of migration of the primordial germ cells. This tumor is composed of elements of all 3 germ layers. Ectodermal tissue is the most abundant, and typically manifests in the form of squamous epithelium, brain tissue, glia, retina, choroid plexus, and/or ganglia. Mesodermal tissue typically gives rise to bone and/or cartilage. Endodermal tissue may form bronchial and gastrointestinal epithelium, thyroid glands, and/or salivary glands."

Dude…I am also at Ross. I didn’t say the files don’t exist (I’ve mentioned their existence previously on this blog). I just didn’t believe they originated at Ross. However, I recently heard that the exam booklet ID number was visible in the pictures taken of the histo shelf that was compromised and that is what was used by the NBME to trace the files back to a Ross student. I still don’t believe that Ross is a bastion of cheating and I don’t believe for a second that other schools don’t have illegal files circulating among their students. Sad…but probably true.

Besides, just because the files exist doesn’t mean that one has to use them. I didn’t and I’ve made it to 4th without them.

Dude… it’s not a rumor. I am at Ross and I KNOW these shelfs are around. Since not a single person can be singled out, everyone pays. Unfair, but no school will dismiss about 50% of their student body, which is what would happen if they REALLY dig into everyone’s hard drive. Sad… but true.

goodluck with the mini. i really enjoyed reading this blog mostly because it’s now raining and my thoughts are quite different than yours and it’s nice to think about what it’s like on the island with serious studying and brains to touch. what could it be like….
