Came across this interesting tidbit at this interesting blog:
From “Swagga Like Us”:
“I can’t teach you my swag
You can pay for school, but you can’t buy class
School of hard knocks, I’m a grad”
Republicans have certainly proved Jay-Z right by conducting themselves classlessly throughout the health care debate. Sen. John [sic] Kyl, for example, ridiculously complained about having to help pay for maternity care, saying: “I don’t need maternity care, and so requiring that to be in my insurance policy is something that I don’t need and will make the policy more expensive.” (To which Sen. Debbie Stabenow said, with extraordinary swag, “I think your mom probably did.”) Stabenow’s smackdown is the stuff of which we need to see much more. Republicans are acting petty and petulant, and it will take Obama, Stabenow and all the other Democrats pointing this out to get something done.
I wouldn’t go as far to say that all Republicans are acting ridiculously and all Democrats are just brushing dirt off their shoulders (as it were) and being sensible, but it really frightens and actually, enrages me that someone would have to point out that maternity care is necessary. This is what happens when politicians, most of whom care more about their own political aspirations more than what is in the best interest of their constituency, are making decisions about heath care. Obviously, some don’t even know what they’re talking about. And seriously, senate needs to have more women, if not to ensure that American women don’t get thrown under the bus when the health care legislation is finally passed, then to check stupid senators whose male privilege* has rendered them witless.
